Green, Eco-Sensitive products are beginning to become more and more popular. When it comes to power amplifiers, two important questions need to be asked:

1. How much power is being consumed when the unit is not in use?

2. How efficient is the unit when it is operating?

Knoll EcoSystem Knoll uses great sounding  class A/B amplifiers in all of our top of the line models. Class A/B is medium efficiency as far as stereo amplifiers go, so their isn't much we can do about operational efficiency if you want great sound quality. When powered on with no signal being amplified, class A/B amplifiers typically idle at about 10% of their full power output. This idling turns into heat and the heat needs to be disposed of. In an air conditioned home the idling heat typically takes about four times as much energy to remove. Knoll Eco-System™ amplifiers automatically turn off the amp channels not in use and can turn them on without a whisper in less than 8/1000 of a second. The Knoll Systems MR216 Eco-System™ trigger allows amplifiers, subwoofers and other products that are capable of triggering to be activated or powered on when an audio signal is present. When the audio signal is lost the activation is stopped. The most important feature of the Eco-System™ circuit in the MR216 is the energy or electrical savings that is delivered to the owner over a period of time. The typical home owner will see a savings of hundreds of dollars or more per year in actual electrical costs and that can be multiplied when taking into account the increased costs of air conditioning the home to extract unwanted heat produced by a products powered up and not in use.
